Nutrition Support Program
Recognizing the unique needs of patients receiving home Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN), we offer a comprehensive Nutrition Support Program. The program includes a specialized Metabolic and Nutrition Support Team, technologically advanced protocols, and weekly nutrition support rounds to review patients’ status.
Our nutrition support team includes the referring physician, our Certified Nutrition Support Dietitians, registered nurses, and pharmacists clinically trained in home parenteral nutrition therapy. Physicians from the Thomas Jefferson University Hospital Nutrition Support Service are available to assist referring physicians when requested. An initial nutritional assessment is performed to establish nutrient and therapy goals. Based on the assessment, recommendations can be made for formula composition and cycling regimens. Each patient is closely monitored throughout the course of nutritional therapy. Clinical status, nutritional parameters, and laboratory values are evaluated to determine response to therapy. On a weekly basis, our nutrition support team meets to review the overall status of patients receiving total parenteral nutrition.
