Medicare will only cover skilled services:
  • Which could only be provided by a nurse, a physical therapist or a speech therapist 
  • Which are appropriate to the patient’s illness or injury.

If a patient is receiving a skilled service and if the need is justified, the services of an occupational therapist, a social worker, or a home health aide might be covered by Medicare.
